The museum welcomes visits from both Primary and Secondary school pupils to its premises and is also happy to arrange for a speaker(s) to visit the school and talk to students in-house.
Numbers are limited for visits to the museum in normal opening hours due to space restrictions and the presence of other visitors. It is essential for the school to provide sufficient qualified helpers to escort pupils in small groups when touring the museum – approximately 7 pupils per group.
It is beneficial for the teacher to contact us in advance to discuss numbers and how we can help with any questionnaires or projects the pupils may be required to complete.
We also welcome visits from community groups and can usually tailor make a visit to suit any particular interests.
Visits can be made during the day or in the evening subject to volunteer staff being available. Numbers may be restricted and are subject to prior agreement.
The best time for visits to the museum is in the quieter months such as March, April and May or October and November. The museum is closed from the end of November to the end of February however visits may be possible during this time subject to work on displays and planned maintenance during the winter closure.
No formal charge is made for school or group visits as admission to the museum is free. However we encourage donations at the suggested minimum rate of £1 per person. All such donations go directly to maintaining the museum’s operation and to preserving its Collection.
If a speaker comes to your premises we reserve the right to make a charge to cover the cost of travel and time dependent on distance. We would also encourage donations at the suggested minimum rate of £1 per person in the audience.
